When managing lupus, it's important to be mindful of red meat consumption. While you don't necessarily need to eliminate red meat completely, the amount and frequency should be monitored based on your kidney function and overall health status.
Here are some key guidelines for meat consumption:
• Opt for grass-fed meat when possible, as it has a better balance of omega fatty acids
• Keep portions to about the size and thickness of your palm
• Consider limiting red meat intake if you notice increased inflammation or symptoms
• Focus on incorporating more plant-based proteins into your diet Many people with lupus find success following an anti-inflammatory or Mediterranean-style diet. If you notice that red meat triggers symptoms, you might want to reduce your intake or try alternatives. Always discuss significant dietary changes with your healthcare provider, especially since lupus can affect kidney function and protein processing differently in each person.
