I’ve been told by my rheumatologist that SLE and other conditions can be the cause of neuropathy. Factors such a diabetes, B 12 deficiency, infections and other factors could be the cause. It’s always best to see your doctor so that labs and tests can be done to determine the exact cause.

Having multiple doctors involved in your care can lead to different perspectives, but working with a rheumatologist you trust should be your anchor point for coordinating care. The key is finding a rheumatologist you feel comfortable with and can openly discuss your concerns. Consider this a long-term relationship - your rheumatologist should be someone who listens to your worries about symptoms and treatment effects. Don't hesitate to schedule follow-up appointments specifically to discuss your concerns about the conflicting opinions you're receiving.
