@A MyLupusTeam Member People with lupus should avoid sulfa antibiotics. We are more prone to be allergic to them. Please make sure to add it to your list of allergies if you haven't already done so.

Drug-induced lupus (DIL) occurs when certain medications trigger an autoimmune response that causes lupus-like symptoms. While hundreds of drugs have been linked to DIL, not everyone who takes these medications will develop the condition. Symptoms typically resolve within weeks or months after stopping the triggering medication.

The most common medications known to cause drug-induced lupus include:

• Hydralazine (for high blood pressure)
• Procainamide (for irregular heart rhythms)
• Quinidine (for heart rhythm issues)
• Isoniazid (for tuberculosis)
• Minocycline (for acne and infections)
• TNF-alpha inhibitors like adalimumab, etanercept, and infliximab Common symptoms of drug-induced lupus include:

• Joint pain and swelling
• Fever
• Chest pain
• Reduced appetite
• Sun-sensitive rashes
• General feeling of being unwell

These symptoms are usually milder than other forms of lupus. It's important to talk with your healthcare provider before starting or stopping any medication, especially if you have concerns about drug-induced lupus.

I found out years ago I was allergic to Sulfa. It is on my medical records at PCP and also on a chart on my computer, so I can make sure that any doctor I have doesn't give it to me.
