Why does stomach swelling and bloating come and go?

Stomach bloating that goes up and down can be related to several lupus-related issues. Here are some common causes:

Gastroparesis can cause recurring bloating. This condition slows down how your stomach empties food, leading to feelings of fullness, nausea, and abdominal pain. It may be more common in people with autoimmune disorders like lupus.

Peptic ulcers from lupus medications like NSAIDs or corticosteroids can cause stomach pain and discomfort that comes and goes. These ulcers create sores in your stomach lining.

Medication side effects can also play a role. Some lupus treatments affect your digestive system and can cause bloating that varies day to day.

Lupus flares themselves can impact your digestive system, causing symptoms that fluctuate as your disease activity changes.

It's important to track when your bloating occurs and what you're eating or doing around that time. Keep a record to share with your rheumatologist. They can help determine if it's medication-related, connected to lupus activity, or another digestive issue that needs treatment.

If you experience severe pain, black stools, persistent nausea, or dramatic weight changes along with the bloating, contact your doctor right away.

AI has many good suggestions, Patricia, and if it's uncomfortable, please see your doctor. Lactose intolerance is another possibility, but diarrhea usually accompanies that.😘

@MichaelWyatt4--Sorry to hear your pancreas has been destroyed by lupus. You've been through a lot, and I hope you're better lately.
