What could be causing swollen skin with red/blood dots underneath?

The red or blood-like dots under your skin could be related to several lupus-related skin symptoms. These spots might be petechiae (tiny red dots) or purpura (larger purple or red patches) that can occur when lupus affects blood vessels or platelets.

Lupus can cause various skin symptoms including:
* Hives - raised, itchy patches that may appear red or pink on lighter skin, or blend with darker skin tones
* Subacute cutaneous lupus - scaly patches or round sores
* Livedo reticularis - a mottled, netlike pattern that can appear blotchy in red, blue, purple, or dark brown

The swelling combined with these dots is definitely something to discuss with your healthcare provider, especially since it appeared suddenly. They can examine the affected areas and determine if this is related to your lupus or requires immediate attention.

You should contact your doctor sooner rather than waiting if:
* The swelling or dots are spreading
* You're experiencing pain, fever, or other new symptoms
* The areas feel warm or tender to touch
* You notice any bleeding or bruising

Keep track of when these symptoms appeared, whether they change throughout the day, and if anything seems to trigger or worsen them.

I remember having that symptom many years ago. I went to my Rheumatologist and I think he prescribed prednisone but not sure. I can't remember the prognosis

Hi Jacquelyn and Patricia, I usually get like a heat rash or excema. My doctor prescribed triamcinolone which helps with the rash and itchiness. Hope your skin rash goes away soon!
