I was recently diagnosed with that also & I have Sjogren's disease overlap with my SLE. I think that is the reason for the "gastroparesis" and it is no fun! I was actually told by ChatGPT to eat & drink only small amounts of food & drink and only warm and room temp. NOT anything cold. And that took care of my problem. The worst part for me was that with Sjogren's, you have such "dry mouth" all the time that not being able to drink cold water does not quench my thirst. Good Luck!

What are the symptoms and management options for gastroparesis pain with lupus?

Gastroparesis can cause several uncomfortable symptoms when you have lupus. You might experience:

- Abdominal pain and bloating
- Nausea and vomiting
- Feeling full quickly when eating
- Dramatic, unhealthy weight loss from eating so little

The condition makes your stomach empty its contents too slowly, which can significantly impact your appetite and daily life.

Management Options:

To diagnose gastroparesis, your doctor can perform gastric emptying tests to measure how quickly your stomach empties, or they may do an upper GI endoscopy or ultrasound.

Treatment approaches include:

- Dietary changes: Focus on easier-to-digest foods that are gentler on your stomach
- Medications: Your doctor may prescribe medications to help improve stomach emptying
- Surgery: In some cases, surgical options may be considered

It's important to work closely with your healthcare team to find the right combination of treatments. They can help adjust your approach based on how you respond and ensure any dietary changes meet your nutritional needs while managing symptoms effectively.
