Managing pain without traditional pain meds when you're dealing with so many overlapping GI issues is genuinely tough — and you're not alone in this struggle. Here are some approaches that may help:

For Pain Management (Non-Medication):
- Heating pads on painful areas can help ease discomfort
- Physical therapy to strengthen muscles and improve mobility
- Ask your doctor about topical treatments that bypass the stomach entirely

For GI Symptom Relief:
- Eat smaller, more frequent meals instead of large ones
- Stay upright for several hours after eating
- Avoid trigger foods like spicy, fatty, fried foods, citrus, chocolate, and carbonated drinks
- Finish eating at least 3 hours before lying down
- Raise the head of your bed using risers or a foam wedge With gastroparesis specifically, lighter, easily digestible foods tend to work better than heavy protein-rich meals.

The most important step is talking openly with your rheumatologist about ALL your GI conditions together, so they can tailor a pain management plan that won't aggravate your stomach. Keeping a symptom journal tracking what you eat and when pain spikes can also give your doctor valuable clues. 💛

Try some Epsom salt baths and breath work while in the bathtub

Going on walks in the morning actually really helped when I was really sick. It was the way I could get up and function and take care of 3 young kids. If I didn’t do it I was just dead tired and miserable all day.

I do Epsom salt baths, infrared heating pad. Shungite balm and Salonpas pain relief patches. The brand because they don’t irradiate sensitive skin. They work well. They also stay on well. I also meditate daily. Not to clear the mind but just to relax and notice what come up. Believe it or not keeping a gratitude list daily helps pain because you are focusing on something other than your pain. Hope this helps.
