Are you experiencing this? Please be careful which antibiotics you take as some cause side effects in people like us with Lupus. I have become allergic to Penicillin/Amoxicillin. I was given this antibiotic to treat a very bad UTI (early last year) and I broke out with a itchy rash on both my legs and my arms. Since then my Rheumy has taken these meds off my antibiotics my list.

Can a soft tissue bacterial infection be related to lupus?

Yes, soft tissue bacterial infections can be related to lupus. People with lupus are significantly more prone to bacterial infections, including skin infections, which affect soft tissue.

There are two main reasons for this increased risk:

* Lupus itself causes an abnormal immune response that makes it harder for your body to fight off bacteria
* Immunosuppressive medications used to treat lupus (like prednisone and other drugs) further weaken your immune system's ability to protect against infections

Studies show that people with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) develop infections two to six times more often than those without the condition. Skin infections are among the most common types of bacterial infections in people with lupus, alongside respiratory and urinary tract infections.

If you notice signs of a soft tissue infection (such as redness, warmth, swelling, or pain), it's important to contact your healthcare provider promptly. Antibiotics can be very effective and are especially important for people with lupus who face greater infection risks.

@A MyLupusTeam Member Hope you’re doing well today Fathima. Initially I was prescribed Clindamycin 300 mg. but it wasn’t effective enough to clear up the infection. So now they changed it and prescribed Doxycycline 100 mg. So far so good, haven’t gotten any weird side effects and they don’t bother my gut. I have a few more days to finish them off. Hopefully they’ll do their job and clear up this infection. Have a beautiful afternoon and stay well. 💜🌸💜🌸💜🌸💜
