Bev, lupus can cause ringing in the ears (tinnitus). It's possible that Plaquenil could also cause it, as it can cause vertigo, which is also usually an inner ear problem, like tinnitus. I would discuss this with your doctor, and I hope you get relief.

FYI, high-dose aspirin can also cause tinnitus, in case you've been taking it. Some other meds can also cause it.

Are you experiencing ringing in your ears (tinnitus) since starting Plaquenil?

Ringing in the ears isn't commonly listed among the typical side effects of hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) in the available information. However, side effects from antimalarials can vary from person to person.

Some side effects of Plaquenil typically go away after a few days once your body adjusts to the medication, though this timeline can vary. Since you've been taking it for over three months, the ringing may not be a temporary adjustment issue.

What you should do:

It's really important to contact your rheumatologist or healthcare provider about this symptom. They can:
- Determine if the ringing is related to Plaquenil or another cause
- Evaluate whether you should continue the medication
- Rule out other potential issues

Don't stop taking Plaquenil on your own, as this could cause your lupus symptoms to flare. Your doctor needs to guide any medication changes to keep your condition well-managed.
