I have never been in a clinical trial myself, but I don't have any issue with them. I hope the trials find a cure or better maintenance drug.

@A MyLupusTeam Member You are correct, but it's a little more than that. Please read the article to learn more about clinical trials.

Not a whole lot I guess you go to the place where it's being held you take
their drugs they have run you through a few tests I would assume and then
you write down symptoms that might occur during the medications and
anything that has been going with your body any rashes or anything changing
in your body that they can note down

I asked my rheumatologist if he knew any I can be a part of and he said he wanted to try all he could as far as medication. If none worked he would suggest it. There aren’t too many for Chronic Cutaneous Lupus. The ones I did find were in other states. One in Richmond, VA had ended last year and who know when another will be. I pray I’m able to go and afford the time off because I’m starting to look like a chocolate cow 😔with dark hyperpigmentation all over my face and body 😫

What should you know about clinical trials for lupus?

Clinical trials are an important way to advance lupus treatment and potentially find better options for managing the condition. Right now, several promising treatments are being studied that could make a real difference.

For example, litifilimab is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials for cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE). It has received FDA breakthrough therapy designation, which means the FDA sees strong potential in this targeted treatment. While it's not yet approved for general use, it represents hope for people who don't fully respond to current therapies.

Researchers are also exploring other innovative approaches, including:
* Treatments that target specific immune cells involved in lupus
* Therapies that remove or reset B cells
* Early-stage vaccines for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which may play a role in triggering lupus

If you're interested in learning about clinical trials, talk with your rheumatologist. They can help you understand what trials might be available, explain the potential risks and benefits, and decide if participating is right for you.

Clinical trials help researchers develop new treatments that could one day improve life for everyone living with lupus.
