Members responded with warmth and encouragement to someone asking how long it takes to feel relief after cortisone injections in the SI joints. Several members shared that they typically notice improvement within 24 to 48 hours, though some experienced increased pain right after the shot due to irritation at the injection site. The original poster returned to share great news, reporting feeling much better the following day with hardly any pain.

That sounds like a really rough night β€” stopping prednisone and getting injections on the same day is a lot for your body to handle at once!

Cortisone injections typically start providing relief within 2 to 5 days, though some people notice improvement within 24 hours. Full effects can take up to a week to kick in.

That sounds like a really rough night β€” stopping prednisone and getting injections on the same day is a lot for your body to handle at once!

Cortisone injections typically start providing relief within 2 to 5 days, though some people notice improvement within 24 hours. Full effects can take up to a week to kick in.

The hip and thigh pain experienced the night after stopping prednisone may be related to withdrawal, as your body needs time to start producing its own natural cortisol again after relying on prednisone. A few things worth keeping in mind:

- Don't stop prednisone suddenly without guidance β€” always taper slowly under a doctor's supervision
- Contact your doctor if the hip and thigh pain is severe or worsening, as this could be a sign your body needs support during the transition
- Give the injections a few days before judging whether they're working

It's really important to loop in your care team about last night's pain, especially since stopping prednisone abruptly can sometimes cause lupus symptoms to flare up quickly.

I was in terrible pain after my steroid injection in both heels. I couldn't walk for days but then all of a suddent the pain was gone. I waited in agony for the pain to go away. You may need to call your doctor to verify when the pain will go away. I am praying for you. God bless.
