Members connected over whether TMJ is directly linked to lupus or caused by teeth grinding from pain, with several sharing that conditions like Sjogren's syndrome often go hand in hand with both TMJ and dry mouth. Many community members described waking up with jaw and ear pain from nighttime grinding, and shared relief strategies including Botox injections, mouth-moistening gum, dry mouth gels, lozenges, and the prescription medication pilocarpine. A recurring theme was the importance of reviewing medications with your doctor, as several common drugs can worsen dry mouth, and making that one change brought meaningful relief.

I was diagnosed with both Sjogrens & Lupus. I was also diagnosed with TMJ. My TMJ doctor had Sjogrens and said they go hand in hand. I would also grind my teeth. My treatment took almost a year. I was suffering. I am glad I stuck with it and finally found relief.
