My mom has viral hepatitis and is showing signs of infection, pain in joints, as well as a high PCR. This was all very sudden.
I would love to know better what diet I should choose, and general care and overall advice, all resources are welcome. It is a very scary situation as she is showing signs of dementia and delirium for the first time.

Filipa, I agree that she should see a liver specialist. It seems like she may be dealing with hepatic encephalopathy, confusion related to her liver disease. High protein intake tends to aggravate this condition, and a low-salt diet is important, too. Please discuss these measures with the liver specialist (hepatologist) and ask for a referral to a dietitian knowledgeable in treating liver disease. Good luck!

Your mom needs urgent, in-person medical attention right away. Please contact her doctor immediately or take her to an emergency room, especially given the sudden neurological changes you're describing.

Thanks all for the feedback. I really appreciate it.

I was overwhelmed and going back to the doctors notes, she said laboratory hepatitis, so I believe autoimmune one is not discarded.

I am having difficulty forcing her to eat. That's why I want to make sure what she eats is as healthy as possible.

I read up on multiple liver supplements and then made sure all wouldn't interact with medications or cause issues with my Myocitis and Lupus. I'm actually feeling better on them.

I would recommend a liver specialist, I see one for PBC and we spoke about nutrition, I have went through several diets haha in all the years from my original Sjogren's diagnosis in 2016. I tell people eat foods that love you back, drop the diet and find foods that are less processed, more veggies and fruit and clean fresh juices, more protein that is healthy and really learning what are her allergies, stressors, lifestyle and everything can play a huge factor. But getting in with a liver specialist will be great!!
