Mine are not on sun exposed areas and look like hives. Do you know how long this usually lasts? I’ve never had this before.

Yes, absolutely — burning and itchy rashes are very common experiences shared by many MyLupusTeam members. One member shared that they noticed a burning rash on one side of their face, particularly when exposed to sunlight or UV light. Another described their skin becoming red, warm, and sensitive during flare-ups. These sensations can come from several types of lupus-related rashes, including:

- Malar (butterfly) rash — Appears across the cheeks and nose, can burn or itch, and often feels like a sunburn
- Discoid rash — Raised, scaly, disc-shaped sores that can be painful and irritating
- Cutaneous lupus rash — Often thick and scaly, can burn or itch similarly to sunburn, and typically appears on sun-exposed areas like the arms, legs, and face
- Hives — Affect about 10% of people with lupus and can cause significant itchiness It's always a good idea to let a doctor or dermatologist know when and where rashes appear. They can help identify the type of rash and recommend the right treatment, which may include topical creams, oral medications, or sun protection strategies.
