Painful, pimple-like lumps appearing in a line down the face is something worth taking seriously, especially with lupus in the picture. Several MyLupusTeam members have described similar experiences — pimple-like rashes on the face, chin, and neck that itch, burn, and hurt.
With lupus, a few things could be going on:
- Lupus rash — Lupus can cause pimple-like rashes on the face that are red, hot, itchy, and painful
- Cutaneous vasculitis — Inflamed blood vessels under the skin can cause lumpy, itchy, painful rashes
- Photosensitivity reaction — UV light exposure can trigger skin inflammation, especially on sun-facing areas of the face A line of lumps running *down* the face (rather than across both cheeks) doesn't fit the typical butterfly/malar rash pattern, so it's especially important to get this checked out by a dermatologist — ideally one familiar with lupus skin symptoms.
They may recommend a skin biopsy or blood test to pinpoint the cause and find the right treatment. Don't wait too long on this one — painful symptoms deserve prompt attention! 💛
