I am being calm with my body these days, and learning more and more patience! So I have been having consistent chest pain since March 2026, off and on it comes and goes. Then there's the shortness of breath which does the same. My cardiologist (who's amazing) has done a full cardiac workup including a cardiac MRI from last week. I now have dry cough somewhat with it, no fever with any of this. Don't think it's flu, covid or a cold either. Could there be lung potential involvement?

Members offered strong support around the question of whether lupus can cause lung problems like chest pain, dry cough, and shortness of breath, with many sharing that their own lung issues turned out to be directly linked to lupus. Several members described serious diagnoses including lupus pneumonitis, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, and bronchiolitis obliterans, with some requiring oxygen, chemo, or medications like CellCept and OFEV. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy, with many urging chest X-rays, CT scans, full lung function tests, and pulmonology referrals to catch issues early before lasting damage occurs.

I just had the complete lung function test done in pulmonology. It definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I will be using an acapella device to exercise my lungs and help clear them for now on, but I was told the broncheastsis isn't as severe as once thought.

Please remember to request the lung function tests, too, Empress!

I am glad you had your tests to find out what it is. I think I need some he CT scan on my lungs. I keep having mucus form until I have to cough it out. I have been waiting day by day to find out if my insurance is going to reinstate the extra help they had been giving me with my health cost. Prayers for everyone and your needs and lots of happy days.

A complete lung function test, including diffusing capacity, will detect lung disease. Please keep us posted.
