Taking it. How much does a medication are really help out. When I'm not taking it I don't feel any different than when I am taking it. I would just like to know if I can stop taking all my medications

Members responded with care and concern to the question about stopping lupus medications without a doctor's knowledge, with the overwhelming message being that doing so can be unpredictable and risky. Several members shared personal stories of stopping medications like hydroxychloroquine, only to experience severe flares, full-body rashes, hospitalizations, blood transfusions, and even a stroke. A recurring theme was the importance of staying honest with your doctor, keeping up with lab work, and leaning on community and faith for strength, with one member sharing they restarted their medication after reading the responses.

I ended up with SLE, hyperthyroidism, and RA because of side effects from my medication for my first problem. I gained control of my first problem and the thyroid issues. But still deal with SLE and RA, I don't take meds for either one since the side effects from drugs caused them. I'm the type of person who, when side effects hit me, they can drag me down. So I deal with the pain and itching with creams and pain relievers. As I'm hesitant to take anything new. I won't even get the shots of any type because I'm not risking what immune system I have left.

I started taking my medication again today. You guys got my attention. Thank you for all the information I really appreciate it. But you know at times you just want to give up but I know I can't do that I got to stay strong. I still got my great-grandson's to worry about. I hope everybody's having a wonderful day big hugs to all of you

It's dangerous to stop taking any prescription medication without doctors taper. Do you have labs ran while you're not taking medications?

You have to ask: what do you want for yourself? There are consequences to all decisions.

I agree with others that this can be dangerous. Even for those with mild lupus and no organ involvement, our disease is highly unpredictable, as I've learned over my 40 years living with it. Major organ disease (or flares of pre-existing organ disease) can develop any time, even after long periods of stability.

If you're uncertain or uncomfortable with your treatment, Judy, I suggest considering a second opinion. University medical center rheumatologists are often more knowledgeable and experienced with our uncommon disease, and a consultation could help assure you that you're on a reasonable regimen of meds.

Most of us will not feel "normal," even with appropriate treatment. Sadly, it's the nature of the beast!😘
