Thank you! Fortunately, I've always been adamant about wearing sunscreen, especially on my face! Currently using CeraVe SPF50 and La Roche Posay Anthelios SPF50 but I will look into 70+ options. Like you said, I do need some sun hats, too. I'm assuming it's going to be trial and error for a while but that, eventually, I'll be able to understand what does / doesn't cause flares by keeping up with patterns and symptoms. It's refreshing, however, to see that being in the sun doesn't automatically send everyone into a flare. I've been told this could be manageable without medication yet I feel I'm under too much stress to try that route at this point. Goodness, I'm ready to get to that stable point... but one day at a time & everything in God's timing. Thank you for sharing!

Being in the sun can easily cause flares in many of us. I am one of the few not deeply affected by the sun. I may get a rash if I am in it too long, but not a full-blown flare. Nonetheless, I am diligent about wearing hats and applying sunscreen. It is strongly recommended that we wear a sunscreen with at least SPF 70. Please consider doing the same. Ask your rheumatologist and/or your dermatologist for sunscreen recommendations that are best for you. Here's more info for you:

Yes, agreed. Thank you. I weigh 105 lbs and was originally prescribed 200 mg daily but to start at 50 and increase it by 50 daily until I reached 200. Ended up with a full-blown chest and stomach rash which the doctor said was a drug-reaction rash. She then placed me on prednisone for 7 days and advised to return to 100 mg plaquenil daily after finishing steroid. You know the rest 😔 so I'm essentially not being treated at all right now. Be at least 17 days until I can see rheumatology. Also thinking about getting another primary care provider. Thank you for your reply 🙏

Plaquenil I was told is weight based and not to be stopped abruptly, but instead weaned off of. If you’re newly diagnosed you it is also recommended to stay out of the sun because that can exhaust your immune system and make the medicine have a negative effect on you. Your primary care doctor would not be as versed in this as your RH would be, but the least could gave helped you to understand.
