Yes, I had cataract surgery on both eyes at age 51, and I finally got rid of the eyeglasses I had worn since I was 9 years old. I could also see again! My early cataracts were due to high-dose steroids for a severe flare. It's a minor surgery.

Many MyLupusTeam members have navigated eye issues related to lupus and its treatments. While specific cataract surgery experiences vary, here are some important things to keep in mind:

- Let your surgical team know about your lupus diagnosis before the procedure
- Tell your rheumatologist about the planned surgery, as lupus disease activity can affect recovery
- Be aware that lupus can slow healing and increase infection risk
- Ask about any adjustments needed to your lupus medications around the time of surgery It's also really important to keep up with regular eye appointments and flag any new symptoms to your eye doctor promptly. Working closely with both your ophthalmologist and rheumatologist together gives you the best chance of a smooth recovery. 👍
