A member reaching out about unbearable itching and severe arm pain received an outpouring of both compassion and practical guidance from the community. Several members suggested the itching could be linked to a medication reaction, kidney issues, or lupus, and strongly encouraged checking labs and contacting a doctor, while one member recommended trying hydrocortisone cream mixed with almond oil and lotion for relief. A recurring theme was emotional solidarity, as members rallied around the ongoing struggles being faced, offered prayers, and shared hope that answers and relief would come soon.

That sounds absolutely exhausting and miserable — dealing with unbearable itching on top of severe arm pain at the same time is a lot to carry. Hang in there.

The good news is that the methylprednisolone your doctor prescribed is a corticosteroid, which can also help reduce the inflammation that often drives lupus-related skin itching. So it may help on both fronts. While you're waiting for relief, here are some things that have helped other MyLupusTeam members with unbearable itching:

- Over-the-counter antihistamines like cetirizine (Zyrtec) or loratadine (Claritin) — but check with your doctor first to avoid interactions with your current meds
- Ice packs applied directly to itchy areas
- Witch hazel dabbed on affected skin
- Hydrocortisone cream on specific spots
- Alcohol on a cotton ball followed by a prescription cream

Also, try lukewarm (not hot) showers, pat skin dry gently, and use fragrance-free products. Wearing soft, breathable cotton fabrics can also reduce irritation.

It's really worth looping in your rheumatologist about the itching specifically — there are stronger prescription options available if needed.

You may want to have your kidneys check. If im not mistaken itching is a sympton of kidney issues.
