That's a really interesting symptom to notice — and good on you for paying attention to it! With lupus, unusual sensations throughout the body can be related to a few things worth exploring with your doctor.
One possibility is peripheral neuropathy, which is nerve involvement that lupus can cause. It can produce a wide range of sensations — tingling, crawling, temperature changes, or just plain "weird" feelings — that don't necessarily hurt but are noticeable.
Another thing worth considering is pleurisy, which is inflammation of the lining around the lungs. It's fairly common in lupus and can cause chest-related sensations when breathing deeply.
The fatigue piece is also very telling. It could point to:
- A lupus flare brewing
- Your body responding to inflammation
- An underlying infection (especially if your immune system is affected by medication)
A few things to keep in mind:
- Track when these sensations happen and how long they last
- Note any other symptoms that appear around the same time
- Share this pattern with your rheumatologist or healthcare provider
If the sensation ever becomes painful or you develop sudden chest pain, head to the ER right away. But for a strange, non-painful sensation — definitely worth a conversation with your doctor soon!
