That sounds really concerning, and it's completely understandable to want to figure out what's going on. Unfortunately, images can't be viewed here, but the details shared are helpful.

Given the history of similar episodes turning out to be cellulitis, this situation deserves prompt medical attention — especially because of these key factors:

- A recent open sore on the finger (a potential entry point for bacteria)
- Past episodes in the same area that turned out to be cellulitis
- Significant pain yesterday around the elbow area
- Lupus and immunosuppressive medications can make infections harder to fight Cellulitis doesn't always spread dramatically right away, so the fact that it doesn't appear to be spreading isn't necessarily reassuring on its own.

The safest move would be to contact a doctor today or visit urgent care, rather than waiting to see if it spreads. Mention the recent finger sore, the pain level, and the history of cellulitis in the same area. Getting it checked early means faster treatment if it is an infection.

Please don't wait on this one — better safe than sorry! 💛

It may be bruising, Teresa, but please have your doctor look at it. It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like it could be olecranon bursitis, inflammation of the elbow bursa. Icing can help bursitis, so you could try that while waiting to be examined.

It looks like ecchymoses to me. In my case larger purpura. I get them on my hands. They look like bruises but really are a form of vasculitis associated often with lupus. They don't typically hurt or turn white when you press on them. 15% of people with Lupus have lupus vasculitis.
