I had an ECG and QT prolongation was diagnosed and so Cardiology stopped my Hydroxy. I'm not on any maintenance medication now but I feel I need something. What else would be appropriate?

Heart rhythm issues with hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) are rare, but they are a known risk worth understanding. The specific concern is called QT prolongation — basically, the heart's electrical system takes longer than normal to reset between beats, which can occasionally lead to a rapid or irregular heartbeat.

Most people taking HCQ don't experience this, but certain factors can raise the risk:
- Taking other medications that also affect heart rhythm (like some antidepressants)
- Older age
- Taking multiple medications at once
- Higher doses of HCQ Some MyLupusTeam members have reported noticing a fast or "thumping" heartbeat while on HCQ. If that sounds familiar, it's worth flagging to a doctor sooner rather than later — it could be a sign that something needs attention.
Symptoms to watch for include:
- A fast or irregular heartbeat
- Feeling faint or dizzy
- A "thumping" sensation in the chest
These aren't guaranteed signs of a serious problem, but they're definitely worth a conversation with a healthcare provider. Better safe than sorry — especially when it comes to the heart! ❤️
