Tenderness around the forehead and eye sockets is something others with lupus have experienced. Swelling and discoloration around the eyes is a known lupus symptom, and for some people it's actually one of the first signs of lupus.

A MyLupusTeam member shared: "It was hard hiding my swollen eye with makeup. I was only able to cover the redness, but the swelling still showed through." Regarding small lumps, lupus can sometimes cause nodules (rounded lumps) under or on the skin. However, a lump underneath the skin rather than on the surface is less likely to be lupus-related.

It's really important to get any lumps and tenderness checked out by a doctor. Some things to be aware of:

- Lupus can cause swollen lymph nodes, especially during a flare
- Discoid lupus can cause scaly, discolored patches around the eyes and face
- Sun exposure can worsen swelling and rashes around the eyes

Since the skin around the eyes is delicate and scarring can be permanent, seeking early treatment is key. A rheumatologist or dermatologist would be the best people to evaluate these symptoms.
