My hair began to thin and growing slowed waaaaay down when I first got sick, prior to diagnosis. Now that I am being treated the lupus no longer causes hair loss but the meds do. Right now I'm not losing any more hair, and the hair I do have is growing again, but I still have thin hair and probably always will. No bald patched, but really thin all over. Rogaine won't work because I don't have female pattern baldness; it's lupus/medication induced. Does anyone know of a thickening shampoo or… read more

Members responded with a variety of helpful tips for managing lupus and medication-related hair thinning, with many sharing personal experiences about what worked for them. Several members recommended supplements like biotin, collagen, and Hair, Skin and Nails vitamins, while others praised specific products like Thymuskin shampoo, Aveda Invati, castor oil treatments, and the 5% Rogaine foam for strengthening follicles regardless of hair loss type. A recurring theme was finding creative solutions, including wigs as stylish accessories, and using tools like a portable High Frequency device to boost scalp oxygenation and support hair regrowth.

Aveda makes a line of products called Invati. I use the shampoo, conditioner & mousse. It really helps plump up thin hair & keep it healthy. Real difference in volume.

I'm 40 now but my hair fell out when I was 17. I didn't get a Dx or real medical help until I was 37. I can recommend many things. I should mention that Rogaine 5% Foam Will Strengthen your follicles, regardless of type of hair loss/that's what that does (don't use if scalp is cut/irritated). Dr's know *very little about hair loss, Derms some yes but RAs & PCPs, almost none. Ok so, the only shampoo that worked for me is Thymuskin Med (or Medicated, Gold, or Forte- &Amazon has it for considerably less than their website). It's made in Germany & active ingredient is bio identical thymus peptides. It's expensive but for thin hair, size of nickel works & lasts me almost a year. Take a minute to look up the thymus glad and its role in immune function. Marketing is a bunch of BS (haha also hv Marketing degree) so it's about WHAT is the active ingredient in the product and WHY will it work. Thymus=Immune System! Other shampoos=tingly sensation of cheap menthol does Nothing!!!
I'm a licensed Esthetician, my whole career was about the skin & active ingredients to treat concerns, what works & WHY. The 1st thing to know is this: If there is no inflammatory Scarring to your follicles, All your hair can Grow Back. At any time 😄 I would do the 5% Rogaine Foam, take a liquid mineral supplement & Biotin, do weekly castor oil hair masks, & finally look up Portable High Frequency kit on Amazon. Mine was $40. It's a little hand held, contains either neon (red orange colored) or argon (blue violet) gas inside glass electrodes. It sanitizes outside skin w ozone (why face attachments will clear up blemishes, total bonus) and blasts healing oxygen inside the pores/follicles. So it comes w a comb attachment, you plug in, turn on, & gently run it over scalp 10-30 mins (no pain, tingle sensation) A monk in a 20 year Tibetan monestary hand-stand cannot compare to the oxygenation your follicles get with high frequency!!!
Hit me up if I can explain anything further. Best of luck!!!

I take Hair, Skin and Nails vitamins. It has biotin and some other vitamins in it. My hair and my eyelashes were getting really thin from the methotrexate until I started taking it regularly. My hair is almost back to normal and my eyelashes are actually longer and fuller after using Rapid Lash, a topical treatment.
