I'm not looking for an answer, per se, I'm more so looking for your advice. Do you think it would be appropriate to ask an employer to get fluorescent lights that are UV light free? I work in a school and I'm in the classroom with UV light coming down on me all day. It makes me feel nauseous and exhausted and makes it difficult for me to do my job. Would you ask about it? Our administration tries to be relatively accommodating compared to public schools.
I think if you ask, coming in with some documents to support your request. You could then ask them to accommodate your needs. It helps and it makes them feel obligated to help.
Absolutely! It is a very reasonable request!!
I believe that would fall under the reasonable accommodations. "The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, State and local government services, and telecommunications."
I would ask your employer for an Accomodations Request form. I did and I know have a couple of standing lamps in my office where I used to have flourescent lighting.
Your doctor can fill out the form and you return it to them. Its usually a pretty easy form.
@A MyLupusTeam Member, let us know what happens. Honestly, you employer doesn't have a legal leg to stand on!
