Is strengthening our immune systems detrimental to us considering they are already over active and attacking us ? Should we stay away from immune boosting supplements, extra vitamin c etc ... ?

My rheumatologist has me on 4000i of vitamin D now BarbaraLaing. It really helps me out a lot. I've been feeling a lot better since this increase( b4 it was 2000i a day). Also, I've stopped taking a lot of meds. I currently take Plaquenil, baby aspirin, vitamin D, and 6 mg prednisone( I'm tapering off the prednisone now). So next month I'll be down to 3. It has really made a difference. No morning nausea, not so much pain, headaches. Plenty of rest is key!!!!

Everyone is different. I would consult with your rheumatologist to see if it is OK. But vitamin c( orange juice) really helps me out. Like someone said try to stay away from those who are sick. Most importantly, listen to your body. For me I can feel when I'm getting ready to have a flare up. So I hydrate myself with Gatorade n plenty of it, water too. But Gatorade helps me out a lot.

I would say yes. Because our immune system is already overly active, taking an immune boost will do more harm than good. #speaking from experience.

I thought about this question again last week. I got sick and I did load up on vitamins (and continued talking my plaquenil). I got extra rest, and OJ. SO I guess I'm using the vitamins when my own immune system is down. Using them as true "Supplements" and not dietary "staples". I have no idea if that's a good thing or not though.
Any one get a medical professionals opinion? I hope I REMEMBER to ask my rheumy at my next appt.
