Since my Lupus worsened last summer, I have had a general lack of interest in friendships/relationships. I just seem to want to keep to myself. This is starting to affect my relationship with my fiance. I am already on an antidepressant, so I can't fully contribute it to depression unless my dosage needs to be adjusted. Does Lupus have this effect on anyone else?

Also ask your doc to test your vitamin D 3 levels. And yes, this is normal with lupus. You need to see a good mental health professional who can help you with the psychosocial issues that come along with chronic illness. Medication can mask the problems, but talk therapy can get to the root.

For me there were several hurdles in adjusting to living with Lupus that made me not want to be with people. When I first found out I needed to form a new relationship with myself. Who was this lupus me? People who had known I had some health issue now wanted to learn about the new diagnosis. Nobody really got it. It is such a global malaise. It affects so much. As I came to terms with my new self more, I had to learn to live openly. Like I wear hats all the time because I am super photosensitive. Until very recently my left foot had lost the ability to feel balance, so there were some things I just had to say no to, like taking care of the young children at my church. I get cold easily. So when I go to meetings, I now take a heating pad that attaches onto a chair. This way I can still participate in groups, but not get chilled which brings on flares. I go through flares when my thumbs don't work. So I ask for help. If someone sits down next to me and they have a cold or are getting over the flu, I apologize and tell them I am on immune suppressant drugs then I move away from them. I wear my SPF 50 face mask when I drive and go for walks or the grocery store. I only accept invitations from friends that are short and not early in the day or in the evening.
But, I do feel strongly that it is important to reach out and be with people, to make contributions, to take time to enjoy friends. It took awhile but my friends did accept my 'public lupus'. I also feel strongly it is important to give myself time every day for little joys, no matter how small or stupid.
Lastly, my mind does not have to agree with my body. My body is often sick and tired. But my mind can still choose to make the most of the day. 'Today is the day the Lord has made and I will rejoice in it.'

Oh my @A MyLupusTeam Member there's a cry for help .....you sound so sad, and dare I say, angry. Why wouldn't you be with pain and discomfort all the time. I hear ya
We all want to help and I find acupuncture really helpful for pain. However you still need motivation to get there ...
I suppose you can give in to the "why me?" anger, but only you can motivate yourself to have a reasonable kind of future life. I send you blue skies and warm winds from Australia.
Hang in there, come visit down under

Yes ... I'm down to 2 friends. They call... I want to go but the 1st thing I think about is how long I'm a be gone and how tired I am gonna be. I hate it. I was the one always out. I jus wanna stay in most days. If I didn't have to take and pick up my baby from school I probably wouldn't go out for days. I even stopped goin to church... A place I loved being 2 days a week. Now I'm dodging calls from members and I haven't been in almost a year. I don't like it. I hate this lupus shit.
**sorry for the language..I get emotional about this***
