Just curious if there is a lot of you out there with Lupus that also have a family history of it!??? I seem to be a medical anomaly as no one on either side of my fam have any signs of Lupus or any other autoimmune disease. Is this the case with anyone else?
Remember everyone that Lupus is the great imitator. And before a few years ago it wasnt even considered real. Lupus can cause psycotic episodes. For a long time in history there were people who were mysteriously afflicted and invalids. Also if you have had some form of drug addiction or alcohol addiction in your family it may have been a result of self medicating especially if there have been repeated attempts at sobriety. Also if there has been a history of absenteeism at work and under employment. Many induviduals have been scorned and belittled, suffered serious emotional trauma because the lived in the confusion of having an invisible disability. And we all know it is still happening to us every day, often in our own families.
My daughter also has it. When she was dianosed with it and we finally figured out the things with her, then we checked me and found out I had it and then all the years of all the unexplained medical issues finally had answers.
Although, I think there may be some who are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed with other issues.
My younger brother has lupus as well but it seems as though even though we have the same illness, they're both on different levels as of seriousness. I got the one where it bullied my kidneys and caused them to fail and he has the one where the only serious part of it is arthritis. My dad just was diagnosed with sjorgens. I told my doctor about me, my brother and my dad having these and he said it was extremely odd to have more than one immediate family member with forms of Lupus.
I have an Uncle and a male cousin on my father's side who have discoid lupus. The must keep covered all season from the sun and my cousin has very bad Raynaud's. Hope that helps!
