Anyone else with Sjogren's have a dry mouth more at night? This seems to be when I am thirstiest and I drink water all day!
In my experience always clean your tongue, scrap the fur off with the handle end scraper on your toothbrush. when the mouth/tongue is fresh and moist, thirst is lessened, and bacteria are not accumulating in your throat/ The best thirst quencher is pineapple juice swirled around your mouth. There are enzymes that clean your month. pineapple juice can be poured into ice block maker and suck frozen to cool the mouth and throat, very good for the summer. I also have given my post surgery patients pineapple ice cubes to quench their thirst after being nil by mouth, very dry and post all those drugs for anaesthesia. Always received positive feedback that the pineapple ice blocks were most refreshing and thirst quenching. Speech language therapists recommends pineapple juice for people who have had a stroke. Also anyone taking lots of pills, it takes the fur off the tongue. clean tongue, healthy throat and tonsils
apple cider vinegar and honey, another anti-inflammatory source, taken in a glass of warm water daily for the constitution. Don't you love the word constitution. All the folk in their eighties that I have ever known use constitution and stamina as every day reference to their tonic's for life and energy. Cant fault apple cider vinegar or honey, and another to add to daily fluid intake
Yes while sleeping I use a cool mist humidifier that help a little and I keep a bottle of water next to my bed.
Hi Calli, I have Sjogren's and I have been having more issues with dry mouth especially at bedtime. I find it helpful to rinse my mouth out with Biotene mouthwash before I go to bed. I also keep bottled water, sugarless gum, and Biotene moisterizing mouthspray at my bedside if my mouth gets dry at night. I have recently bought Thera Breath Mouth Wetting Dry Mouth Lozenges to use when my mouth and throat are really feeling dry and I found them to be helpful for dry mouth. I hope this is helpful for you!
I just recently noticed this hoarseness! It seems I'm going to have to forget being in denial regarding my lupus diagnosis. I Flair, anyone of a dozen ways, become increasingly hoarse. Like it sucks me dry to recover. Lupus Flare: periods of reoccurring acute or chronic inflammation. Life is certainly not boring for us.
