I am wondering how many other women out there have breast implants and if soon after you got them did you start getting symptoms? I have heard there is a relation. but my Dr. didn't think there was a problem as long as they hadn't leaked. Anyone have any answers?

I haven't been able to find a connection on the internet either. I.was hoping that maybe being in this forum there might be a different answer. Something that linked autoimmune disorders and implants.

Thank you Alicew, if you read my story them you would know that my whole autoimmune story started with the birth of my 3rd child. So I.think your answer makes a lot of sense. I was wondering how many people actually have implants.

The way I've had it explained to me is that your DNA "loads the gun" for what autoimmune diseases you can have, and your environment "pulls the trigger". So if you are a person with the genes for autoimmune diseases, a lot of different things can trigger them, (when they would have stayed dormant if not triggered). I would guess that the stress from any surgery could be a trigger, and maybe what the implants are made of could do it, too... It makes sense to me.

@A MyLupusTeam Member, I have a friend who has implants and she has autoimmune issues, but many people in her family do too, and they don't have implants. And another thing, it might affect some people with autoimmune issues and might not others. I couldn't find any connection when I did a google search earlier. But that's not saying it never affects people. Everybody is different, and so far science isn't showing (or telling) any connection (that I can find).

You need to see a better doctor. There is a relationship. Your body is trying to fight the implants but can't really find the source of the foreign body so it stimulates the whole immune system.
