The pros and cons or whatever you can tell me I would appreciate it.. Thanks
Learn more about the drug treatment mentioned above.I started it. You start with infusions every 2 weeks x3 then once a month. I had some side effects with the first 2 infusions but it was the solu-medrol given with it. The third dose solu-medrol was not given and I did much better. I have more good days than bad. My appetite has decreased but I'm not complaining about that!
I have fourth dose 10/13.
Good luck! Let me know how you do
I've had my first Benlysta infusion on Oct. 3rd. Two more scheduled on Oct 17th & 31st and every 28 days after that until my immune system quits producing too many white blood cells. My first treatment left me feeling just a little more fatigued than normal for a couple days. (Normal day for me is wake up, eat, take meds, sit in recliner, eat, take meds, to bed, some days I shower. I can't lead any type of normal life at this time or I would Not have started taking Benlysta Infusions) None of the side effects that was listed in the Benlysta packet that Dr. Chase gave me to read has not happened, but I realize it's very early in my treatment. I pray they never do! Most of the side effects are life threatening, may cause cancer, may cause inflammation of tissue on the brain and many other areas. Because it knocks your white blood cells down, my doctor told me to stay away from the public and any sick people should not be allowed in my home. I was diagnosed in Nov. 2015. Started me on Plaquenil. No improvement in my joint pain or fatigue. I'm not sure about what my LUPUS is doing to my organs my doctor is a person of few words. I feel more tired/fatigued when I wake up than I do when I go to bed. She does bloodwork every couple months. This past Spring I started hurting real bad and doctor said stay on Plaquenil and added Prednisone 15mg for two weeks, 12.5mg for two weeks, 10mg., 71/2mg., 5mg. At the end of two weeks I felt really good but only lasted about two weeks longer. As the Prednisone was scaled down past 10mg., I couldn't tell it helped at all! Back to doctor and had me take a Dexascan (bone density test) because the Prednisone can deplete Calcium from your bones. Dr. Chase added another pill to my meds(helps in keeping Prednisone from sucking the Calvin from your bones. I'm currently taking 2 tablets of Plaquenil daily, 10mg Prednisone daily and my first Benlysta infusions Oct. 3rd. My next infusion is Monday Oct 17th. The infusions take three hours to run in your vein but I'm in a recliner so it's not to uncomfortable. If anyone else has taken Benlysta with good results or terrible side effects please let me hear from you. Thank you for your time and God bless you, Norma age 64
The same as everybody else except that my joint pain has increased & I haven't had any suffer effects. Although the weather had been very unpredictable since I started so not sure if it's the benlysta or the weather. On the up side my energy level has increased so I no longer just come home from work & collapse from exhaustion.
Its a great infusion. I started it in December and just like BJS said you start off for 2 weeks x3 then once a month. I haven't had any problems and haven't had severe or hardly any joint pain since I started. The nurse will give you Tylenol and benadryl to take along with benlysta but I only take benadryl cause I'm alleric to Tylenol and it doesn't affect it.
I have been having Benlysta infusions almost a year now. I have had no problems with it, so far. My labs have improved tremendously since I got started on this drug. I had to stop for 2 months in order to have a stint due to Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) but have taken it since. Please read all info before you start Benlysta, it can do some really bad stuff! Will keep you in my prayers.
