Members warmly rallied around a question about belimumab (Benlysta), sharing personal experiences that helped ease fears about starting a new self-injection for lupus. Several members described how the medication reduced joint pain, helped them get off prednisone, and prevented flares, while noting it takes around 3 to 6 months to show results. A recurring theme was encouragement to trust the process, ask a nurse for help with the first injections, and watch the pharmaceutical company's online tutorial for guidance.

Yes, I take the Benlysta (Belimumab) injection without any side effects. It has helped get me off prednisone. The injections are easy to do once you get used to it. Some people do better with the infusions and vice versa. It all depends on the individual. My biggest problem is remembering to do my weekly injections, even though I have reminders on my phone and wall calendars. The pharmaceutical company has an online video to show you how to do the shot. They have a great support program if you need copay assistance. Best wishes to you.

Hi Germaine your doctor has prescribed this medication for your Lupus, the FDA would not approve it if there were serious problems. Lupus does a lot of damage and if there is a medication that can slow it down it is worth a try. The self injections are not too difficult if you know a nurse or there is one at your medical clinic ask them for assistance and monitor you the first few times. Write down any real issues afterwards. Like all the biological it will possibly take a while to kick in. Good luck ๐Ÿ‘ and take care of you๐ŸŒ„rself. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’

Germaine, if you're really uncertain, I suggest talking to your doctor specifically about the risks and benefits and why they're recommending it at this time. And if you'd like a second opinion, that's reasonable, as long as you don't have an active kidney or other organ flare, and make sure there's no pressing reason to start it.

It will take about 3-6 months to start working, FYI.
