My Rhuemy says I have Drug Induced Lupus.. so how is that different from SLE?
Drug induced means once you stop the drug causing it you will be lupus free. SLE is caused by our immune systems causing the damage on it's own and is incurable.
Thank you both. What you both are saying make sense because I was on Depo Provera and my Great Aunt and second cousin have SLE. When I get tested all my blood work is negative however I have high inflammation levels. I get butterfly rashes, joint pain etc. I think thats what he meant the drug triggered my lupus genes and caused it SLE. Thank you both for helping me through it. It was a bit confusing 😅
Thank you. That's the weird thing. At 18, I was on Depo Provera, which lead me to a lupus like illness guess due to a high amount of hormones
But that was years ago. I'm on Benlysta now. I thought I had SLE as I currently dont take any medicines and have never been lupus free. It's a bit confusing.
Lol.
@A MyLupusTeam Member it isn't an exactly known treatment. I have changed diet with no changes. I have used fiber with mixed results. I am on an antispasmodic antidepressant and antianxiety and i still have ibs bouts from hell. With me its more psychological I believe. The littlest stress can upset it.
@AshleeBree and @A MyLupusTeam Member i personally think What it is just sle. My rheumatologist is absolutely adament that it is fibro but not lupus and doesnt believe it is autoimmune at all even though all the 4 checks needed are there she looks for any reason to not call it sle. Going so far as my patient portal doesnt even show i am on plaquenil or even a diagnosis of probable sle. Instead it just says fibromyalgia. My direct blood aunt has both. I have neuropathy as well as high positive ANA, skin involvement, joint and muscle pain, fatigue, Raynauds and sjorgens. But a lot of the symptoms are similar and she rather focuses on fibro. However the fevers I have constantly (nearly everday at random points as well as this issue started as soon as my whole body went insane) is a normal in SLE and she says in all her years no lupus or fibro patient she has seen has fevers like me. I call bs and know that it is lupus. The trigger/tender points on my body are not symmetrical and i do not have all 18 whichh are required for a diagnosis of fibro.
I just think that they don't want to say it's sle because if theyre wrong they can be sued. I don't even think my rheumatologist believes in lupus fully. You cannot look at me and not see the mottling of my skin as well as the rash i get on my face (not butterfly but in same areas). If you look at my symptoms and lab tests its SLE all the way. Not saying I want Lupus but let's call a spade a spade. The pain management doctor i saw today told me it is lupus (he sees a lot of lupus patients). He said while some of the symptoms are the same he doesnt believe it is fibro after my examination and believes it is 100% sle.
