Anyone Gone To An In Person Lupus Support Group?

Anyone Gone To An In Person Lupus Support Group?

Hey y’all !

The bf was looking up info on lupus and ran into a site that says there is a support group in my area.

My question is has anyone gone to one ? And how does it work ?

Thanks !

What do you have to loose Cynthia? They won't force you to go twice if you don't like it.

I went to one in Texas, when I first found out I had lupus. There is good and bad. Some people can bring you down, but others will lift you up. It is good to find out what others have done to feel better. One lady would put on funny hats on her worst day's,she said it made her not to take herself to serious.

I went to 6 meetings in every one they focused on diet almost as if it was a cure. They had nutritionist come in and speak it was so boring. I was really hoping that therapist would come and talk. Also, I thought a group therapy session once a month would have been beneficial. There are many emotions and struggles with chronic illness where there are feeling of guilt, shame, blame, loss, depression and so on. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have gone to a group in my city. I loved it at first but the same people came all the time and told their story over and over. It got boring so I quit.

Yes I used to go all the time until we kind of all broke up some moved away and others got to sick to go, it was a small group and we would meet for lunches or dinners or at someone's home but like I said it was only about ten of us. There are bigger groups we often went when there was a speaker at the hospital that interested us. I also am in Canada so it could be run a bit different. Some are big groups it depends on how many are interested in meeting up but it became a social for our group and was fun but we shared our stories and helped each other out when someone was having a hard time. It is worth going to check it out. gentle hugs and blessings
