Tooth sensitivity can be a concern for people with lupus, especially if they are taking methotrexate. Common causes of tooth sensitivity include:

- Brushing too hard
- Grinding teeth
- Consuming acidic food and drinks
- Recessed gums
- Periodontal (gum) disease
- Plaque buildup
- Damaged or cracked teeth
- Dental procedures

Triggers for tooth sensitivity can include cold or hot food or drinks, sour or acidic food or drinks, cold air, and toothbrushing.

For managing sensitive teeth:
- Brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
- Avoid hot, cold, or sour foods.
- Wear a mouth guard at night to prevent grinding.
- Use sensitive toothpaste.

If you experience sensitive teeth or other side effects of methotrexate, seek medical advice from a healthcare professional.

Try using preservative free eye drops. They will help so much more. If you put the one use vial which have more then one use in them in a plastic baggy you can use it all day. That’s what I do to save money on the cost. Having constant dry eyes and using eye drops with added things in them can cause more harm. I had to go through all of this because my eyes got so dry it caused my cornea to swell and I woke up one day and cldnt see clearly out of my right eye. It was so scary. I also gave dry mouth and teeth pain. But I’ve always had sensitive teeth. The dry mouth has gotten worse the sicker I’ve got over the years.

It could possibly be Sjogren's . It causes extreme dry eyes and mouth. Hence the dental problems also. Check with your doctor. I use eye drops all day long, and I rinse my mouth frequently with Biotin mouth wash. Good luck.

My teeth have been sensitive and my eyes dry for years before I started the plaquenil, however, I have noticed an increased dryness. My opthamologist told me it was from the combination of the medications I am on and an improper blinking habit I have. I don't close my eyes completely when I blink apparently🙄🤔. He said to use the drops more or we would have to start Restasis.
