Hi All, so I’ve been weaning from 10mg of prednisone, now on 5mg/day but I still can’t lose weight unless I eat less than 600 calories a day. I’m doing all my usual weight loss things but it just doesn’t work. Meanwhile, weaning off the prednisone has caused a flare up:( I seem to need 8-10mg a day to be effective. Any ideas?

Also, please keep in mind I’m a sole parent to 3 young teens and I do shift work, I have little to no support. I can’t ‘slow down’ any more than I have.

Whenever you drop your dose of prednisone you will have fatigue and pain from the withdrawal, but your body will adjust. Sadly it just takes time.

I recommend not limiting yourself to only 600 calories. It can/may lead to long term issues. I do recommend trying to have better/healthier choices in protein, carbs, & fats. Although it may be hard bc prednisone tend to curve your cravings, you gotta try to discipline yourself. You can also add at least a 30 minute light exercise to your every day routine. The best thing to say though is be patient with prednisone until you can lower your dose. The weight for me didn’t start coming off until I was around 5mg of prednisone or under. I hope you’ll be able to reach that point soon. I know it’s super difficult with prednisone, but it’s important to remember how much it helps us push through the pain. Good luck. Also, drink plenty of water!

I'm not a doctor, but I had your problem. Prednisone it's a medication that should only be used for the really ”I can't breathe or I can't touch anything” days). Long term use can be really bad for you in the long run. I cut the prednisone mg by mg (every 3 days I cut a mg). I also changed my diet (keto). It takes time! And patient! Give yourself a break... Have you tried benlysta? It may help to control the flares
