You can gain and loose weight with lupus. I also have Sjogren's and when flaring I get a lump in my mouth. Might want to be checked for that.

Yes, lupus can cause weight loss in some cases. While weight gain often gets more attention, weight loss is also a real concern for some people living with lupus.

Here are some common reasons lupus may lead to weight loss:

- Abdominal pain – Digestive discomfort can make eating difficult or unappealing
- Diarrhea – A lupus-related symptom that can interfere with nutrient absorption
- Poor appetite – Lupus symptoms and some medications can reduce the desire to eat
- Nausea and vomiting – Side effects from certain lupus medications can also contribute It's worth noting that some lupus medications, like azathioprine (Imuran), may indirectly support weight stabilization by reducing inflammation and pain β€” which can make it easier to stay active and eat regularly.

If weight loss is happening without any clear reason, it's important to let a doctor know right away. Unexplained weight loss should always be evaluated by a healthcare provider to rule out any serious underlying causes.
