As a graduate student, I am required to teach two lab sections. I like teaching my lab sections. It is fun. This semester I have heard a lot of my students complaing about stress and anxiety. I was thinking about creating a “Self Care” assignment for them. They would have to spend at least 1 hour doing something for themselves without feeling guilty about having to study. Going to graduate school and dealing with lupus and person problems has been stressful to say the least but self care has… read more

Kudos to you for wanting to help your students. I'm a adjunct professor and have seen the toll that the college life can dole out. Very important to have the students focus on something that is relaxing yet helps the body work at optimum levels. I've recently started getting a monthly massage and doing pilates and yoga daily. These activities combined have helped with my physical symptoms but more importantly, they have helped keep the stress hormones at bay.

I listen to nature sounds or classical music when I go to sleep. Thank you for all your help.

I absolutely know the feeling! But you have to let some things go when your body is not cooperating. People in your life—professors, family, friends, etc.—will understand that. And if they don't, forget 'em! Lol

What an awesome idea. It took me a lot of years to service myself first, 60 at least. We tend to focus on everyone else, can’t say no to our loved ones in case they feel ignored. I’ve learned how to handle my emotions with the help of my husband. He never makes me feel guilty if I just want to rest for the day, have lunch with my best friend, or hangout with my grandkids and daughters. My best time for myself, clean bedding, my fav pjs, and a great bath with my favourite oils. As I get older, 67 now, I have to put myself first or I won’t be here for my family. I consider myself healthy because I’m alive, I can love and I am with my family. Don’t look for sympathy, but want empathy and love from people who are important to us. Lupus patients require understanding of our disease and give us the time to rest and not feel guilty. This has been the hardest for me. I always felt guilty if I wasn’t working somewhere. Love yourself first, and accept only the best of others. ❤️🥰🦋🦋
