Doc says I’m in the grey with Lupus and RA overlapping each other. Currently on plaquenil, prednisone, methotrexate and folic acid with small patches of pain free days. Goal is to not need the prednisone. Vectra score has increased so Rheumy is starting me on Enbrel. Has anyone else taken this in addition to the other meds?
I am taking gabapentin 400 mg four times a day if i need it . Plus Plaquenil 200 mg twice a day.
Methotrexate I only took it for about three weeks I developed a severe headache, and Coughing more than usual because I cough do to my asthma also.
Soon as I’m having a flare my doctor put me on prednisone is the only one that works I should say it helps.
@A MyLupusTeam Member thank you so much for this advice! I will certainly try for a second opinion!
Mocha, your situation is more complex with the overlap. Might you please consider seeing a university rheumatologist for a second opinion? I think it's really worthwhile to do, because sometimes I've seen over the decades as a physician that community doctors will use more medications than absolutely necessary. Academic (medical school) physicians are more prone to follow the research and established treatments, as well as minimizing meds.
Hope that helps and good luck!
@A MyLupusTeam Member So sorry to hear that about your hands. I think my rheumy is trying to be super proactive with adding the biologic since my numbers and symptoms aren’t improving much. Just feels like a lot of meds at once.
@A MyLupusTeam Member I did see Humira as the preferred injectable by the insurance, but I couldn’t find a lot of info on the major differences between it and Enbrel- but that’s good to know it’s been helpful.
