The CDC recommends that everyone ages 6 months and older should receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine. This is especially important if you have lupus since you may be taking immunosuppressive medications that can weaken your immune system.
Getting the 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine is particularly crucial if you are 65 or older Show Full Answer
@A MyLupusTeam Member, thank you, I did check with my doctor and got my covid booster yesterday. 💜💜
@A MyLupusTeam Member, Plaquenil aka hydroxychloroquine doesn’t have the ability to protect against or treat the symptoms of COVID19… The reason is that the drug is not an antiviral… It was originally developed to combat malaria… Malaria is caused by a protozoa which is a parasite… Parasites are usually treated by an antiprotozoal medication like Plaquenil… COVID19 is not caused by a parasite, it is caused by a virus... Plaquenil also has anti inflammatory properties that treat Lupus and other autoimmune diseases
From what I read online from many sources, there’s a much greater risk of myocarditis and heart attack after having COVID-19 than there is from having a vaccine to protect you from it. My sister is 81 years old and she has had lupus for almost 30 years and it’s attacked her brain and her lungs and I knew if she caught Covid she would die. She has had several vaccines and boosters and thank God, she hasn’t caught Covid. The shots didn’t bother her at all. From what I read, there is a slight risk of increased myocarditis in men ages 18 to 39 from the vaccine, I think it said, but it wasn’t deadly and it’s still much less than the rate of people dying of heart disease after having COVID-19. There’s a lot of misinformation out there. Make sure you consult multiple websites! And make sure they’re from medical journals. I’m not saying I trust the drug companies, because I don’t, but Covid is nothing to fool around with. It killed two of my family members. 💕
@A MyLupusTeam Member, there is absolutely no proof that taking the covid vaccine will kill you in the future… The vaccine cannot change your DNA, it's just a messenger vaccine that helps train your body to fight off COVID19… I have been vaccinated since the covid vaccines rolled out and guess what I am still alive at age 64 🙂
