Thomas, it's important to ensure your wife receives the best protection against COVID-19, especially given her lupus SLE. Here are some key points from my knowledge base:

- Updated mRNA Vaccines: The updated mRNA COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna are designed to target recent variants, including the omicron KP.2 strain.
- Novavax Vaccine: The updated Novavax COVID-19 vaccine, which is protein-based, targets the omicron JN.1 strain.

Why Consider the Novavax Vaccine?
- Targeted Protection: The Novavax vaccine provides targeted protection against specific variants, which may offer additional defense.
- CDC Recommendations: The CDC recommends everyone ages 6 months and older receive an updated COVID-19 vaccine, especially those at high risk for severe COVID-19, like individuals with lupus.

Next Steps:
- Consult Her Doctor: Discuss with her healthcare provider whether the Novavax vaccine is suitable for her.
- Insurance and Coverage: While the pharmacist mentioned insurance issues, it's worth checking again or exploring other options for coverage.

Staying up to date on vaccines is crucial for her protection.
