The AVISE Connective Tissue Disease test is a specialized blood test that helps doctors determine if you have lupus when symptoms or other lab results are unclear. It's particularly useful when you've had a positive ANA test but still don't have a definitive diagnosis.

This test is unique because it examines multiple biomarkers in your blood simultaneously, including cell-bound complement activation products (EC4d or BC4d). High levels of these markers may indicate a higher risk of long-term lupus complications. While this test can be helpful in diagnosis, it's important to note that it's not perfect. Some people with a negative AVISE test result may still develop lupus, and the test's ability to track disease flares is still unknown. However, those who test positive are more likely to receive a correct diagnosis within two years.
