People with lupus need to take special precautions when getting dental implants due to several important factors:
• Higher risk of infection, especially if taking immunosuppressant medications
• Increased chance of inflammation and irritation
• Possible complications from dry mouth and mouth sores
• Risk of nerve-related issues during dental procedures Before getting dental implants, take these important steps:
1. Discuss your lupus diagnosis with both your rheumatologist and dentist
2. Ask about preventive antibiotics if you're on immunosuppressants
3. Make sure your dentist knows about any history of mouth sores
4. Request accommodations for photosensitivity from overhead lights
5. Discuss pain management options, especially if you have existing nerve sensitivity
Remember to maintain regular dental checkups to monitor your implants once they're placed.

I got one last December. I had a lot of inflammation after the extraction and also later when I had the implant placed. I had to take Medrol packs after the procedures but mine is fine now.
