It's been getting worse it seems. My PCP wants me to see another dermatologist. I have to take children's benadryl just to shower. I cannot take adult benadryl cause I will sleep for like 12 hours. I also brought a filtered shower head and it doesn't stop it. I've brought all kinds of soothing lotions and it doesn't help either. Can't wait to see what the dermatologist says.

It sounds like excema. Is it super itchy? You must scratch or else. It is tiny bumps that get red the more you scratch. Good luck and hugs.

None of the creams I've received helped so far, @A MyLupusTeam Member. What do you use?

Are you experiencing severe itching after showering or bathing?

You're definitely not alone. Many MyLupusTeam members report similar experiences with itching after showering. One member shared, "My skin gets very itchy," while others describe uncomfortable sensations when water hits their skin.

Several factors related to lupus could be contributing to your itching:

Hot water and skin dryness - Hot water removes moisture from your skin, which can trigger intense itching. The heat can also worsen lupus-related skin sensitivity.

Cutaneous lupus - About 65 percent of people with systemic lupus have skin lupus, which can cause itchy, burning, or painful skin reactions.

Medication side effects - Some lupus medications can cause sensations like itching, burning, or tingling as side effects. What might help while you wait for your dermatology appointment:

* Try lukewarm or cool showers instead of hot water
* Take shorter, less frequent showers
* Pat your skin dry gently rather than rubbing
* Apply moisturizer immediately after showering while skin is still damp
* Use soap only where necessary

Some members find relief with antihistamines like loratadine (Claritin) or cetirizine (Zyrtec), though these work best for allergy-related itching. Since you're already using Benadryl, your dermatologist can help determine if there's a better option that won't make you so drowsy.

It's great that you're seeing a dermatologist soon - they can properly diagnose whether this is cutaneous lupus or another skin condition and recommend targeted treatments.
