Hi my Lupies! Nicotine patches are not good for pain. Those patches will raise your blood pressure. Ask your doctor Rheumatologist which medication is better for you. I take Gabapentin ( neurontin). It works well with my leg pain.Lyrica is also good for nerve pain..Best answer I can give you is talk to your doctor. I used to love Advil. It was my go to drug for pain. I had no pain , but it started to make my stomach lining to swell and bleed 🩸. So now Advil and any NSAIDS are in my medical record as a drug allergy. Have a good night my Lupies!

Are nicotine patches helpful for lupus-related neuropathy and cognitive issues?

The search results don't contain information about nicotine patches for pain, neuropathy, or cognitive health in lupus. However, there are other options that have been discussed by people with lupus for managing neuropathy pain.

For nerve pain related to lupus, gabapentin is commonly used and has helped many MyLupusTeam members. Members have shared that it helps with:

* Shooting nerve pain
* Neuropathy in the feet
* Overall pain reduction
* Better sleep

Other treatments for lupus-related neuropathy include pain relievers, anti-seizure medications like pregabalin, antidepressants, and topical treatments like capsaicin cream or lidocaine patches.

For cognitive issues like brain fog, some members have found relief with Rheumate (a prescription folate supplement), proper sleep, regular exercise, and good nutrition.

Before trying any new treatment like nicotine patches, it's essential to discuss it with your rheumatologist. They can help you understand potential risks, drug interactions with your current lupus medications, and whether it's a safe option for your specific situation.

All I use for pain is Walmart brand of Tylenol. I can't use Hydrocodeine, Oxycodone, and Tramadol I'm allergic to them.

I would be very careful when using nicotine patches. People with Lupus like me cannot use it as it will make me flare. I used it once and it did raise my blood pressure however, it also diuresised me to the point I had a hard time getting back my fluids. I don't like flaring as it really for me is life threat. I would ask my Rheumatologist or my PCP before using it. They may have better alternatives. God bless.
