Tecta potentially is the culprit on why I’m not absorbing some of my vitamins and minerals from food. Iron and B12 are two of them so now I get injections. Wanted to share since they actually had no other medical reason why I wasn’t absorbing, got very low. I didn’t stop taking it as it’s important for other protection including helps my gerd. Anyone else take this or have a problem like this?

Pantoprazole (Tecta) can reduce mineral absorption due to loss of stomach acid, Pg, and I'm sorry you're dealing with this. The good news is that now that you're off it, you shouldn't continue to have problems.

Have you experienced vitamin absorption issues while taking medications for GERD protection?

You're absolutely right to share this experience—it's a real concern for people with lupus. Medications that block stomach acid production, like proton pump inhibitors (which Tecta is), can make it harder to absorb vitamin B12. This happens because stomach acid helps separate B12 from food during digestion.

It's great that you're getting B12 injections now to address the deficiency. Many people with lupus face similar challenges, as GERD is quite common and the medications needed to manage it can interfere with nutrient absorption.

A MyLupusTeam member shared: "I've been diagnosed with a vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiency. So, I'm feeling more drained than usual."

Since you need the medication for esophagus protection and GERD management, continuing it while supplementing with injections sounds like a smart balance. Keep monitoring your levels with your doctor, as iron deficiency can also contribute to anemia, which already affects about half of people with lupus.
