What dietary and lifestyle changes can help with Prinzmetal's angina?

Unfortunately, Prinzmetal's angina isn't directly related to lupus, so the information available focuses on lupus-specific dietary approaches. However, if you're managing both conditions, some general heart-healthy and anti-inflammatory strategies may be helpful.

For lupus management, an anti-inflammatory diet is often recommended, which includes:

* Omega-3 fatty acids from fatty fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel), chia seeds, flaxseeds, and walnuts
* Plenty of fiber-rich foods like whole grains, vegetables, and berries
* Healthy fats such as olive oil and avocados
* Limiting red meat and processed foods
* Staying well-hydrated with water

Regular physical activity within your limits is also beneficial. One MyLupusTeam member emphasized learning their physical limits and not being too hard on themselves, noting that limits may differ day to day.

Since Prinzmetal's angina involves heart health, it's especially important to discuss any dietary or lifestyle changes with your healthcare provider. They can ensure your approach supports both your heart condition and lupus management safely.

Thank you, Nicole. This is a rare heart condition, and it's perfectly normal to be unaware of it. I consulted with my cardiologist, and she strongly recommended diet 10. I took my Filodipine (Filodip) at lunchtime. I think if I try moving my dose from morning to lunchtime, the nighttime seizures will stop. I'm hoping for that. I'll definitely let you know how I'm managing my symptoms.

I'm sorry I can't help you. I don't know anything about this.

What is diet 10? In the US, we recommend a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet for angina. As Prinzmetal's angina generally occurs only when there's some atherosclerosis in the arteries, this would be appropriate. It's possible that vasculitis could predispose to Prinzmetal's, so please consider talking with your cardiologist and rheumatologist about this, too.
