Members responded with empathy and practical advice to someone struggling with nausea, dizziness, and poor nutrition from multiple autoimmune conditions. Several members shared helpful strategies including juicing, eating small amounts frequently, prepping easy meals on good days to freeze, taking digestive enzymes and probiotics, and identifying food allergies through allergy panels. A recurring theme was the importance of seeing a gastroenterologist, staying hydrated, finding what your body tolerates, and leaning on faith and community support while navigating these complex, overlapping conditions.

What could be causing your digestive issues and exhaustion with lupus?

It sounds like you're dealing with some really challenging symptoms. Several lupus-related issues could be affecting your digestion and energy levels.

Gastroparesis is a condition where your stomach empties food too slowly or becomes essentially "paralyzed." This can cause:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Feeling full after eating very little
- Lack of appetite
- Severe constipation

This condition may be more common in people with autoimmune disorders like lupus and can lead to unhealthy weight changes.

Peptic ulcers from lupus medications (NSAIDs or corticosteroids) can cause stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, making eating difficult and unpleasant.

Fatigue from lupus itself can make preparing and eating meals feel overwhelming, which creates a difficult cycle.

Sjögren's syndrome affects about 10% of people with lupus and causes dry mouth, which can make eating and swallowing more difficult. What you should do:

Talk to your doctor as soon as possible. They can:
- Perform gastric emptying tests to check for gastroparesis
- Do an upper GI endoscopy to look for ulcers
- Run tests to identify what's causing your symptoms
- Adjust your medications or doses
- Recommend dietary changes or easier-to-digest foods

This is important because malnutrition and dehydration can lead to serious complications. Your symptoms deserve medical attention to get you feeling better and eating properly again.

I've always had to drink while eating because of Sjogrens, but recently found out that I also have overlapping Sclerosis too, which makes my whole digestive tract sluggish. I take prebiotics, probiotics, and digestive enzymes to help get everything better digested and moving along. And, I stay hydrated. Getting a full allergy panel done through Dunwoody Labs also helped. I'm actually allergic to mammalian products and gluten. It has made eating more of a challenge, but avoiding what I am allergic to has lead to less flares. And, because I also have a form of Myocitis, my muscles aren't cooperating with digestion either. Since I've been on Methotrexate for Myocitis, I've noticed some improvement in digestion.

I'm really sorry to hear you're going through that. But I've lost a lot of weight I've lost 80 lb and yes it is very hard to eat. I've done everything I can. This is just very hard diseases that we have. I have 37 things wrong with me and I don't understand it all. It is kind of scary. But if I find anything out that will help us out I will let you know my prayers go out to you big hugs
