I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia several years ago. I had a very bad day and night on Saturday, May 02, 2026. My body was hurting all over, and I would get the itching on my skin, but it's internal. It feels burning and itchy, like a crawling sensation. Also, the soles of my feet are always cold, as well as my hands. My younger sister has scleroderma. I have arthritis of the spine, and a doctor told me I have edema or inflammation. My present rheumatologist--I will be seeing a new one… read more

No apology needed at all β€” that's a lot to be carrying, and the frustration makes complete sense. πŸ’™

What you're describing β€” the burning, crawling skin sensations, cold hands and feet, sun sensitivity, fluctuating ANA results, dry eyes, and skin breakouts β€” are all symptoms that can overlap between fibromyalgia and lupus.

A few things worth knowing:

- Fluctuating ANA results are actually common with lupus β€” a negative result doesn't always rule it out
- Cold hands and feet can be linked to Raynaud's phenomenon, which is associated with lupus
- Burning/crawling skin sensations can be related to peripheral neuropathy, which lupus can cause
- Sun sensitivity and facial rashes are classic lupus indicators
- Fibromyalgia affects roughly 25% of people with lupus, so both can absolutely coexist

The fact that you're already on Plaquenil suggests your doctors do see *something* autoimmune happening.

Seeing a new rheumatologist is genuinely a positive step. When you do, bring a written timeline of your symptoms, including that very difficult Saturday. Documented patterns β€” especially the fluctuating ANA β€” can be really valuable for a fresh set of eyes.

You deserve clear answers, not just more uncertainty. 🌿

Rebecca, please ensure that your vitamin D level has been checked recently and is at least 50 ng/dL, as this level helps reduce body pain and autoimmune activity. An underactive thyroid can contribute to some of your symptoms, too.

It sounds like you have something brewing, but it hasn't fully declared itself yet. Hopefully, it doesn't progress to more serious organ disease or lab findings, and excellent self-care may help prevent that. If you have a lot of diarrhea with your IBS, I suggest talking to your doctor about testing for celiac disease.

Good luck, and keep us posted! Hugs to you and your sister.
